Representative Darin LaHood says: ““As a strong practicing Catholic and father of three boys with my wife, I am proud and honored to be pro-life. Our government exists in order to preserve ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’ I firmly believe that we must stand up and protect the sanctity of life from the moment of conception on. I will continue to serve as a proud and active advocate in Congress for protecting life and preserving the rights of the unborn.” (Source: https://lahood.house.gov/right-to-life)

On this sensitive subject, we all have opinions. I respect Mr. LaHood’s personal views.

But here’s the point. We should not let personal opinions (including my own!) color public policy.

As a matter strictly of policy, then, I believe that Roe vs. Wade got it right: the state cannot assert an interest in human life unless and until that life is viable.

Accordingly, I advocate for a return to Roe-era policy via federal legislation."
