Scott Summers has been an attorney for over thirty years. A sole practitioner since 1990, he concentrates in estate planning, probate, and business. Before becoming a lawyer, Summers worked as an executive in the public sector.

In addition to his law degree from Northern Illinois University, Summers holds an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Summers is the author of two "how-to" books published by the American Bar Association: Guardianship and Conservatorship: A Handbook for Lawyers (1996) and Advance Health Care Directives: A Handbook for Professionals (2002).

Throughout his many years of residency in rural Harvard, Summers has been active in civic pursuits. Between 2005 and 2009, he served as an elected trustee at McHenry County College, including a short term as chair of the board of trustees. By way of gubernational appointment and state senate confirmation, he worked as the public guardian and public administrator of McHenry County between 2013 and 2019.

In years past, Summers was treasurer for three non-profits: Harvard Community Memorial Hospital, Hospice for McHenry County, and a church in Woodstock, IL. More recently, he is a regular volunteer with the McHenry County Bar Association's help desk. He also volunteers with local environmental and conservation groups.
