The tax returns of many nonprofits are public records

Are you wondering about how some of your favorite charities are financed?
Do you want to do some sleuthing on the inner workings of a nonprofit in your community?
It’s easy. In fact, the information is just a few keystrokes away.
By law, the federal tax returns of many such organizations are public records. They are to be had on IRS Form 990.
You may find Part VII of each return to be especially telling. It reports the compensation of the highest paid officers, directors, employees, and contractors.
I’ve found that the most convenient way to retrieve these materials is on www.Guidestar.org.
