Have You Ever Heard of Quemoy and Matsu?
Just sayin'.
An August 02, 2022 visit to Taiwan by a Congressional delegation led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has touched off a diplomatic donnybrook. (1)
Permit me to make some observations.
Observation #1: Quemoy (2) and Matsu (3) are groups of tiny islands very close to the coast of China. The nearest of them lie six to ten miles away.
They are occupied and governed by-- surprise! – Taiwan.
Just sayin’.
The islets were military flashpoints in the late 1950s. (4)
Just sayin’.
Observation #2: currently, the world’s demand for semiconductors outstrips supply.
It’s estimated that about sixty percent of all semiconductors are produced in – Taiwan. (5)
Just sayin’.
