Agricultural Policy: Some Food for Thought
It’s time for a wholesale rethinking – and restructuring – of agricultural policy in the United States.
“In 2020, between 720 and 811 million people (worldwide) faced hunger.” “Beyond hunger, nearly one in three people did not have access to adequate food in 2020.” (1)
“41% of Land in Contiguous US Is Used to Feed Livestock.” (2)
About one-third of corn production goes to ethanol for blending into gasoline. (3)
I believe that it’s high time we shift much of our animal feed and ethanol production to direct human needs – grains and legumes in particular.
Do we not have a moral imperative to help feed the world?
